Planning routes for goods delivery


The route of movement is the path followed by the rolling stock when carrying out transportation from the starting point to the final point.
Traffic routes are classified into pendulum and circular.
A pendulum route is a route in which the route of rolling stock in the forward and reverse directions passes along the same route.
There are pendulum routes:
- with a return empty run, on which there is one loading and one unloading point;
- with full use of the run, at each cargo point of which the rolling stock, after unloading, is moved at the same point for loading with other cargo;
- with incomplete use of the mileage, at which there is one loading and unloading point and one combined point for loading and unloading.
A route with a return empty run is called a simple pendulum route. The mileage utilization coefficient on it is 0.5.
A circular route is the path of rolling stock along a closed circuit connecting several loading and unloading points.
When drawing up routes, the routes for a vehicle with and without cargo are determined when performing a shift task, the sequence of detours around points on the route, a schedule is drawn up and the time of arrival at each point on the route is specified.
Routes are compiled within a limited working time (after the deadline for accepting delivery requests).
While the vehicle is moving along the route, dispatcher control of the operation of the transport on the line is carried out. Rational routes can be planned with changing cargo flows for each shift online. First of all, it is necessary to identify the possibility of organizing rational pendulum routes on constant freight flows.
If it is impossible to organize pendulum rational routes, circular rational routes are planned.
To create rational routes, it is recommended to use mathematical optimization methods and electronic computer technology.
The optimality criteria are the minimum idle runs or the maximum mileage utilization rate when transporting a given volume of cargo.
The presence of an electronic map that allows you to quickly and accurately measure the distance on the road network between any points in the city makes the presence of a matrix of shortest distances less relevant for route planning.

Dispatch management of road transport


During transportation, drivers are required to maintain contact with dispatchers and follow their orders.
